McCampbell Earns Two Major Labor Endorsements in Detroit City Clerk’s Race

DETROIT — Today Denzel McCampbell’s campaign for Detroit City Clerk announced major endorsements from local labor unions, Michigan AFSCME Council 25 and UNITE HERE! Local 24.

“I am honored to be endorsed by Michigan AFSCME Council 25 and UNITE HERE! Local 24,” said Denzel McCampbell. “I was raised in a union household, so these endorsements are personal for me. Labor has been critical in helping to protect working families and I’m so glad they are partnering with us to make our democracy more inclusive and transparent in Detroit. Unions have a strong history in helping to shape our civic landscape across the country and I look forward to continuing that work with them as Detroit’s next city clerk.”

Michigan AFSCME Council 25 and Unite Here! Local 24 are local labor unions committed to protecting hardworking families and a strong community. For the past years, labor unions have trained, empowered and mobilized members and families across the country to build support for fair wages, safety protections and the right to collective bargaining.

“Denzel McCampbell is deeply committed to showing up for Detroiters and people across the state of Michigan,” said Lawrence Roehrig, President, AFSCME Council 25. “He is exactly the type of candidate we need to increase access, transparency and participation at all levels of government, and we look forward to joining in these important efforts.”

“Denzel McCampbell is a trusted voice in the city and we are proud to support his campaign to improve resident engagement and ability to access services and participation across the city,” said Nia Winston, President, Unite Here! Local 24. “Denzel is uniquely positioned to bring together multiple voices across the city to protect our rights and resources.”

Denzel is deeply committed to the democratic well-being of the city of Detroit and has spent the past decade organizing and advocating to help residents with a variety of issues ranging from water affordability and reimagining public safety to strengthening public health services and transparency. He has been a key advocate on voting rights and election protection, working to expand access to the ballot box and fight back against the continued attacks on our voting rights.
